Jennifer Lawrence Says Speaking About Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she no longer feels fitting to voice opinions regarding the Trump administration, concerned it could intensify polarizing arguments and increase separation throughout the nation.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains the Actress
During a discussion, the Oscar winner commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was moving hastily without clear direction. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, public figures do not make a difference at all on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Lawrence has admitted freely about backing conservative and liberal candidates in past elections. Brought up by conservative Republicans in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and explaining she understood during the Obama era that backing conservatives was opposing her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “since I think she’s a strong contender and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect abortion access.”
Industry Position
The star was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her rejection of Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the voting intentions was highlighted by the outcome.
“Another four years seems distinct,” said Lawrence about his leadership. “Because he stated his intentions. We understood his record for four years. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
The actor is discussing Die, My Love, the filmmaker’s drama in which she portrays a recent parent who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. Speaking at a interview session for the project in Venice, Lawrence commented on the situation in the Middle East: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
She continued by saying that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discourse of American politics at present and how that is going to be accepted to the children right now. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”
The actor aimed to shift anger about the issue to leaders rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on who is responsible,” she remarked, seen by observers as a reference to the recent commitment signed by numerous Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
The actor, who earned critical acclaim early in her career for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her performance in Die, My Love. Although Ramsay has disputed the story being understood as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to elements of her character’s journey after the arrival of her new baby, shortly after filming concluded.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she commented, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was attempting. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a treatment called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also spoke of the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the film while she was expecting and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it isn’t a major concern.”
