It has been confirmed that beloved actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
An Important Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their roles will likely occur in a brief glimpse ahead, considering the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.

The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several prominent actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
