A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays offer a multitude of pursuits far superior than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on delicious food, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from snapping at relatives. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy developments surfaced over the holidays, and should you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Truly the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which might be a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
